A SPIDER WEAVES A WEB OF LIGHT
By Alice Hammett

spidora.gif (3108 bytes)

A spider weaves a web of light,
In a spot beside the door,
And she waits patiently all night,
For dinner shall come for sure,

In the morning she clips the thread,
And sleeps in a tiny hole,
She returns while we are in bed,
What a simple little soul,

Her beauty is her creation,
Shining brightly in each work,
She always keeps her station,
No matter what threats may lurk,

And now she hangs in the center,
And accepts that she is done,
This life is finished for her,
And she sinks into the one,

And her last silver miracle,
Moves softly in autumn breeze,
A reminder of the joy of it all,
And how it all ends with ease,

Life is only a step in time,
Passing swiftly and then it's gone,
But with each creation we shine,
Our love presence lives on.

A shorter version of the above poem will be published in "Promises of Love" by the International Library of Poetry in the summer of 2000.
